It's said that God created the world in seven day's. Supervisor Vito Chiesa created light in less than 30.

For one weary Turlock county island it took less than thirty day’s to shine a light on a problem that island residents have been seething over for years- an unwanted gang presence. I call them Nosferatu. An evil, dark presence that is generally felt, almost immediately with every turn of a shiny brass door knob. Front doors on this island are always locked tight and for some area residents entombing themselves in their homes as darkness falls is becoming as American as apple pie.

While you may have thought that we the people have rights that protect us from thugs who wreck havoc in the night, apparently we do not. Law abiding residents in this county have become second class citizens while gangs continue to thrive on the devastation they cause, often devouring entire neighborhoods, street by street.

As darkness falls tonight, those who have become comfortable with hiding in the shadows on this county island will have to work a little harder to find that dark place, thanks to Supervisor Vito Chiesa. It’s one small step for me and a rather giant leap of faith for other islanders, however, I sincerely would like to thank Mr. Chiesa for taking an interest and for following through.

There’s no question we need to find solutions to our gang problem and a gang database is the place to start. I would like to see the creation of a publicly accessible gang database available to general public, similar to Megan’s Law. A database that would provide specific information on documented gang members including a picture, name, age, description, address, crimes he or she has been convicted of, information on whether that person is known to carry a weapon, and the potential threat level of the individual. I would also like to know whether this person is on parole or probation and the name and number of this person’s probation/parole officer included with a description.

If you believe like I do that a gang database would be a valuable asset to our community then please contact Sheriff Adam Christianson and voice your support. You can contact him at- chradam@stanislaussheriff.com, or call his office at 209-525-7216.

Also contact Assemblyman Bill Berryhill’s office at matt.roman@asm.ca.gov, or you can call his Stockton office at 209-473-6972, or the capitol office at 916-319-2026.

A publicly accessible gang database will empower the general public by arming them with lifesaving information should they or someone they know become a target or victim of a documented gang member.

I would also like to see the creation of a Community Action Committee-a think tank- to come up with other workable solutions to current gang problems. I would like to see this Committee made up of Community Activists. If you would like to help solve our gang issues please contact me at Linda@StancoInsider.com

In the meantime, let there be lot's, and lot's of light.

And Then There Was Light...
