Questionable Tactics Anger Anti Drug Activists.
 JULY 15, 2010

“The DPA is deliberately trying to trick voters into believing that minorities want marijuana legalized, that this somehow helps them, when nothing could be further from the truth,” said CALM Founder, Carla Lowe, a veteran prevention and treatment advocate. The July 9, 2010, Field Poll confirms that minorities are the strongest group in opposition to legalization as they recognize the harm marijuana use does to their communities.

At a recent California Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM) conference for addiction, prevention and treatment, DPA speakers dominated the conference trying to convince attendees that smoked marijuana should be legalized. They touted the recent California NAACP endorsement of Prop 19 to gain CSAM support. Bishop Ron Allen, a pastor representing thousands of black churches in California, is a well-known advocate against legalization. He asks, “Why would the State NAACP support blacks staying high? It will cause crime to go up, and there will be more drug babies. There is only one answer: money.” The National NAACP has received $950,000, from the Drug Policy Alliance, a primary supporter of Prop 19. Despite the DPA pressure, CSAM has reiterated its opposition to legalization of marijuana.

So where does DPA get its money? The Drug Policy Alliance is the operating arm of billionaire George Soros who seeks to see all illicit drugs legalized. He is behind legalization efforts in 13 other states. Roger Morgan, Executive Director of Coalition for a Drug-Free California, quotes Soros as saying, “I am only in it (legalization) for the money, I am not and cannot be concerned about the social consequences of my actions.”

Who else is not concerned about the consequences of illicit drug use on our children, our communities, highways, workplaces and taxes? It is not too surprising that three different polls on the demographics of the main backers of legalization indicate the greatest support of those polled comes from the 11% who have used marijuana in the last year, primarily young males, and white liberal adults. “It’s time for voters to recognize the insidious maneuvers by promoters of legalization for personal financial gain, and pot smokers who want to get high with no concern for the consequences on their communities,” said Rebecca Hernandez, a veteran advocate for children, youth and families.
