Rancho Cucamonga, CA:
U.S. Deputy Attorney General, James Cole, released a memorandum clarifying the federal government’s stance on the prosecution of those engaging in the cultivation, distribution and sales of marijuana, even under the guise of medicine.

“We hope this memorandum begins to turn the tide against the overwhelming proliferation of domestic marijuana cartels on the streets of California. In Los Angeles alone, over 1,000 of these illegal operations sell dope under the guide of “medicine” in so-called “medical marijuana dispensaries,” said Dr. Paul Chabot, Founder of the Coalition for a Drug Free California.

The memorandum specifically noted that the prosecution of significant traffickers of illegal drugs, including marijuana, remains a core priority. This would include commercial operations that cultivate, sell and distribute marijuana.

“It’s high time that the Domestic Drug Cartels masquerading as medicine providers be put on notice. The flagrancy of the pot industry here in the U.S. flies in the face of all federal drug laws and should finally be aggressively addressed,” said Calvina Fay, Executive Director of Drug Free America Foundation, Inc. and Save Our Society From Drugs.

“The U.S. Deputy Attorney General is clear that the business of ‘medical marijuana’ violates federal law. No longer will profit-making marijuana businesses be able to deceptively declare that they are ‘caretakers’ for people who want to smoke marijuana under a medical excuse. Those who are in the business of cultivating, selling or distributing marijuana are in violation of federal law no matter how big or small their operation. This includes those who facilitate such activities or who engage in financial transactions regarding these businesses such as banks. Prosecutions have already begun in several states,” concluded David Evans, attorney at law and special advisor to Drug Free America Foundation.
