13 year old Denair resident Cody Alicea pictured with his mom was overwhelmed by the amount of support he received this morning when hundreds of American citizens descended on the small town to defend Cody’s right to wave the American flag.

A Denair campus supervisor touched off a firestorm when he forced Cody to remove the American flag from the back of his bike. The campus supervisor told Cody that the American flag would create “racial tensions.” Cody saw it differently. He saw it as a questionable move with Veteran’s Day soon approaching.

The crowd started gathering at around 6:30 this morning in front of Denair Market.

The crowd sang God Bless America and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Many were overcome with emotion. Tears and anger were a common denominator. The crowd also took the opportunity to voice their outrage over additional cuts to the Sheriff's departement.

According to Greg Moody “I’m here to support Cody and the bigger problem. It’s as if waving our flag is some kind of embarrassment. We need to instill patriotism into our country.” said Greg Moody" He also added “cuts to the Sheriff’s Department will put our public safety in jeopardy, and that is not ok with me."

"I’m here to support Cody, and I also think it’s foolish to cut any positions at the Sheriff’s Department. It’s a bunch of crap. It is absolutely ridiculous. I think it‘s political and some people are trying to cover their own behinds instead of thinking about the greater good of our community. When something really bad happens, they aren’t going to have anyone to blame but themselves." Said Denair resident Vicky Jackson.
Members of the American Legion Chapter 83 were among the dozens of motorcyles that escorted the infamous flag bearing bicycle and it's rider to the large gathering.

The motorcycles were followed by a large procession of vehicles driven by area residents who were waving their American flags.

Traffic came to a complete stand still on Main Street while Cody addressed the large crowd who had been waiting patiently for his arrival.

After speaking to the crowd, the crowd then followed him to school, led by his escorts.
